Ting hosts information meet April 4

Ting will host a public information meeting about its plans to bring fast fiber Internet to Wake Forest on Thursday, April 4, at 7 p.m. Open to all Wake Forest residents, the meeting will take place at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre at 405 Brooks Street. During the meeting, Ting representatives will present a brief slide show about Ting and its expansion into Wake Forest. Discussions will also cover the benefits and cost of fiber Internet service, a tentative timeline and what to expect during installation. A question and answer period will follow. Light refreshments, along with soft drinks, coffee and water, will be available. There was an error in last week’s history article about Binkley Chapel that was corrected by Ed Morris, the executive director of the Wake Forest Historical Museum. “ “Dr. Binkley may have well raised funds for the spire on the Chapel that now bears his name but it was not added later. Early construction photos of the chapel’s steel frame clearly shows the spire as part of the original structure as it is first being built. Dr. Binkley began his teaching career at Wake Forest College, his alma mater, in 1933 and remained there until 1944 when he went to teach at Southern Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He returned to teach at the newly organized Southeastern Seminary in 1952. Habitat plans six new homes this year

Habitat for Humanity of Wake County has preliminary plans to build six new affordable homes in Wake Forest in the next year – and they need home buyers for them. The homes will be built by volunteers and the families purchasing the homes on six lots along the newly reconstructed Caddell Street between Spring Street and Pearce Avenue. Rick Beech, the vice president of faith relations, said recently in an email, “We have not formalized our FY20 construction plan yet. Magic Pipers lead off 2019 FNOW

The lead-off band for the 2019 season of Friday Night on White will be the Magic Pipers on April 12, followed by Sleeping Booty on May 10, Love Tribe on June 14, The Soul Psychedelique on July 12, Big Love on Aug. 9 and Crush on Sept. 13. There is more information about each band, including videos of their performances on the town website at www.wakeforestnc.com. Presented by White Street Brewing Co., Friday Night on White takes place along South White Street on the second Friday night of each month from April through September. Each concert begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. Volunteers are needed for a variety of roles during Friday Night on White. Artists wanted for annual sculpture and art display

The Wake Forest Public Art Commission has issued a Call to Artists for its third annual Wake Forest Sculpture Exhibit and Spotlight on Wake Forest Artists Exhibit. These exhibits will provide for the display of public art sculptures and murals throughout Wake Forest from July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020. Local, state, national and international artists are invited to submit their sculptures for consideration for the outdoor sculpture exhibit, while Wake Forest Guild Artists, Wake Forest-area high school students, and artists residing in Wake Forest and its ETJ are invited to submit one piece of original art for consideration for the Spotlight on Wake Forest Artists Exhibit. Bagged leaf collection begins this week

Wake Forest loose leaf collection service ended Friday, March 8. Starting this week, residents must bag for collection all leaves, pine needles and grass clippings or place them inside a garbage receptacle marked ‘YW’ (yard waste). In addition, residents are urged to observe the following guidelines to help improve the collection process:       Bags may be clear or opaque but must be at least 13-gallons in size – the size of a standard kitchen garbage can liner;       Do not place yard waste in grocery store shopping bags or inside Town-issued rollout garbage or recycling carts;       Do not mix in sticks, trash, rocks or other debris;      Place your bagged leaves, pine needles and grass clippings at the curb by 7 a.m. on your normal yard waste collection day. Cops, deputies join for Coffee with a Cop

The Wake Forest Police Department and the Wake County Sheriff’s Office will co-host Coffee with a Cop on Friday, April 5, from 7 to 9 a.m. at the Wake Forest Coffee Company at 156 South White Street. Coffee with a Cop provides a unique opportunity for law enforcement and community members to come together in an informal, neutral setting to discuss community issues and build relationships – one cup of coffee at a time. Food trucks can apply for fireworks show

The Town of Wake Forest will accept applications through Tuesday, April 30, from food truck vendors interested in participating in the 2019 Fireworks Spectacular. This year’s Fireworks Spectacular is scheduled for Wednesday, July 3, at Heritage High School, 1150 Forestville Road. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. but food trucks are required to arrive and set up between 3 and 4 p.m. The fee is $175, and the event includes space for up to nine food vendors. Participating food trucks are required to obtain all necessary Wake County permits, including a Mobile Food Unit (MFU) permit. Each vendor must also provide a copy of its Certificate of Insurance designating the Town of Wake Forest as an additional insured for the event date. A minimum of $1,000,000 in insurance is required.
