Vacancy on Cultural Resources Board

There is a vacancy on the Cultural Resources Advisory Board, and all residents of Wake Forest and its extraterritorial jurisdiction are eligible to apply. The online application is available on the town’s website at www.wakeforestnc.gov/advisory-board-application.aspx<http://www.wakeforestnc.gov/advisory-board-application.aspx>. Anyone without computer access is invited to complete the application by using the computer kiosks in the lobby of Wake Forest Town Hall at 301 South Brooks Street. Completed applications must be received no later than 5 p.m. Monday, March 4. Potato Drop rescheduled until March 9

The Wake Forest Potato Drop which was to be held Saturday, Feb. 23, has been rescheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, March 9, with hopes for better weather. The Northern Community Food Security Team and several other Wake County organizations committed to a sustainable food future will host the Wake Forest Potato Drop in the parking lot of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 520 West Holding Avenue. Organizers say they need 500 area volunteers to bag 60,000 pounds of white potatoes that will be distributed to dozens of food pantries across our region and state. Volunteers of all ages are needed to bag the potatoes and work alongside the Wake Forest Waste Minimization & Compost Team to remove the potato scraps. A Night of Comedy returns Feb. 23

You can expect an evening of rollicking good humor on Saturday, Feb. 23, when the Wake Forest Rotary Club and the Wake Forest High School Band Boosters combine to sponsor A Night of Comedy at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre. From 6:0 to 10 p.m. you will be entertained by Greg Fishel from WRAL-TV and comedians Andy Forester and Cyrus Steele along with a cash bar, heavy hors d’oeuvres, raffles and a silent auction. Only 250 tickets will be sold, but find them at The Cotton Company, N.C. General Store, the Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce, and members of the Rotary Club and band boosters. Koinonia Charity Auction and Dinner on Marach 9

The 2019 Koinonia Cares Charity Auction and Dinner on Saturday, March 9, 2019, will benefit neighbors in crisis who live in the greater Wake Forest-Rolesville-Youngsville communities. The event will be held at Wake Forest Baptist Church fellowship hall at 107 East South Avenue. Free adult yoga class offered

The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department will offer a free adult yoga class Tuesday, Feb. 26, from 2:15 to 3 p.m. at Flaherty Park Community Center, 1226 North White Street. Geared for participants ages 18 and older, the introductory class will emphasize the healing benefit of yoga with slower movements and connection to the breath. The practice is considered especially beneficial for anyone recovering from injury or illness. Participants will explore a moderately easy flow, gentle stretches and end with an extended guided meditation.All levels are welcome. Mardi Gras Street Festival brings fun to downtown

Make plans now to join your friends and neighbors in downtown Wake Forest Saturday, March 2, for the Seventh Annual Wake Forest Mardi Gras Street Festival. Presented by Thomas G. Walters Allstate Insurance and Primrose School of Heritage Wake Forest, this family-friendly celebration is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and admission is free. Northern Wake Senior Center will have an additional 9,000 square feet and renovations throughout the original center on East Holding Avenue. There will be a new entrance to the building, an expanded parking lot and a new entrance on the extension of Brooks Street which has finally connected Elm Avenue to East Holding.
