Yard waste collection delays continue

The Town of Wake Forest is again asking residents to be patient as crews work to collect large amounts of leaves and other yard waste along local streets and in neighborhoods throughout our community. Crews are running behind schedule due to the large volume of leaves and because both town vacuum trucks are out of service. The knuckleboom truck used to collect large limbs and logs is also out of service. The town’s vacuum equipment performs two primary functions: vacuuming and mulching. As leaves pass through the fan or impeller, they are ground into mulch. When items other than leaves, such as rocks, bricks, bottles, and tree limbs, attempt to pass through, the fan or motor can be damaged. Town OKed 48 new homes and Char-Grill in September

During September the Wake Forest Inspections Department approved permits for 38 single-family homes, 10 townhouses and two commercial permits for a Char-Grill at 13600 Capital Boulevard and a fuel station at the Harris-Teeter at 3660 Rogers Road. The Char-Grill will be built by Dalton General Contractors with 3,090 square feet and an improvement value of $625,000. Dalton paid $8,258.21 in fees. The fuel station will be built by Bunn-Brantley Enterprises, which paid $2,866.56 in fees for a structure with 240 square feet and an improvement value of $1,243,760. The Wake Forest Police Department is accepting donations from area residents and businesses for the 20th Annual Shop with a Cop. The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources (PRCR) Department is recruiting instructors and soliciting youth and adult course/program ideas for 2019. PRCR is especially in need of the following program instructors: Preschool/School-age Dance, Preschool Sports Fundamentals, Preschool Music, Preschool/School-age Art, Parent-Child programs, and Adult Fitness. The department offers an array of year-round recreation classes and activities. The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department will sponsor its annual Halloween Spooktacular on Thursday, Oct. 25, from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Flaherty Park Community Center, 1226 North White Street. Presented by Tuscan Ridge Animal Hospital and Champion Windows, Sunrooms & Home Exteriors, the Halloween Spooktacular is a free, family-oriented festival for children ages 12 and younger. Help the WFPD’s annual Turkey Drive

The Wake Forest Police Department has begun accepting checks and cash for its 12th annual Turkey Drive, and on Saturday, Nov. 17, it will accept donations of frozen turkeys at the Wake Forest Police Department’s Main Station on Taylor Street. The money will buy additional turkeys. On Monday, Nov. 19, police officers and staff will be at the Wake Forest Community House on West Owen Avenue to give the turkeys to needy community families from 9 to 11 a.m. or until they run out of turkeys.
