Update Aug. 29, 2018 Wake Forest Community Library on East Holding Avenue was expected to open in September after an addition and extensive renovations, but Mark Forestieri, the director of facilities design and construction for Wake County, said last week he hopes for a November opening. While the construction problems for the Wake Forest Aquatic Center centered on rain and mud, the library’s problems were the steel tariffs and late delivery of construction materials. The library is being expanded from 5,000 to 9,000 square feet. Future projects–Technical Review Committee When the Technical Review Committee met on July 19, the members reviewed the following plans: *Horvath Associates re-submitted a master plan for a veterinary office at 3240 Rogers Road, PIN 1840-20-8842. The building will be 5,300 square feet on 2.11 acres. *FLM submitted plans for a 16,000-square-foot retail/restaurant building on 2.18 acres on 1021 Forestville Road, PIN 1749-68-0097. *Nau Company submitted

News about the chamber

People like the annual Business Expo sponsored by the Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce, and they like one feature: the free food samples. Those will be provided this year by City Barbecue, Chick-fil-A, East Coast Wings, Moe’s, Sweetheart Treats and The Creative Caribbean Cook and Catering. There will also be giveaways and door prizes, with the grand prize a Traeger Grill Package worth more than $1,000. The presenting sponsor for this year’s business expo is B&W Hardware, and it will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. at Richland Creek Community Church. More than 1,000 people are expected to attend. *The Wake Forest Farmers Market has moved to the town employees’ parking lot on Taylor Street behind town hall. The market will be open this Saturday, Sept. 8, from 8 a.m. to noon, and local farmers and artisans will have meats, seasonal vegetables, bread, baked good and other local wares for sale. Marvin Webb Whitt Raleigh Marvin Webb Whitt, 86, passed away Tuesday morning, August 28, 2018. He was born in Granville County, the son of the late Evie Sue Davis Whitt and Hester Thomas Whitt. He was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Brahm Copeland Scarpace, and by his wife, Patsy Pearce Whitt. Mr. Whitt was a member of the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg. He was a member of North Raleigh Chapel. He was a hard-working man and loved the Lord, his wife Patsy and his two girls dearly. He also treasured his relationships with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his brothers and sisters. He loved the outdoors; camping, boating, skiing, NASCAR, tree service and just tinkering around. His girls say, “There was nothing Daddy could not fix.” He longed to be back with his true love, Patsy, again in heaven, but he will be truly missed here until we meet
