National Night Out will be Oct. 1

The Wake Forest Police Department  encouraging area residents, businesses, neighborhood groups, and homeowners’ associations to show their support for police-community crime prevention partnerships by participating in Wake Forest’s National Night Out on Monday, Oct. 1, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. in the Renaissance  Plaza on Brooks Street. There will be a DJ, food, special prizes and vehicle displays by Wake Forest Fire Department, Wake Forest Police Department and Wake County EMS along with a variety of booths highlighting crime prevention and safety. Police officers will distribute information  about vehicle security, home security and personal safety. There will be a K-9 demonstration and D.A.R.E. presentation along with information about Neighborhood Watch, Special Olympics, and much more. Although National Night Out is offered nationally on the first Tuesday in August, the Wake Forest Police Department schedules its event each year on the first Monday in October to take advantage of cooler temperatures.

Can still dine and help CROP Walk

Two members of the Wake Forest CROP Walk committee had the same fundraising idea, and area residents can choose one night and restaurant or both to eat and donate to fight hunger globally and locally. The first event was Aug. 22 and the second event will be Monday, Aug. 27, at a longtime area favorite, Milton’s Pizza and Pasta at 14520 Falls of Neuse Road. Between 5 and 9 p.m. Milton’s will donate part of your meal to CROP Hunger Walk 2018. Be sure to tell your server you want to support CROP Walk. CROP’s mission is self-help global food and water projects and disaster relief in more than 30 countries as well as in the USA. John “Jack” Rivers Youngsville John J. Rivers Jr. (Jack) passed away on August 19, 2018. He was born on November 13, 1947 in Troy, New York to John J. Rivers Sr. and Margaret E. Rivers. He was married to Davelyn A. Rivers for 48 years and is father to David S. Rivers (Lisa Kaese Rivers), Brian A. Rivers (Melanie Rivers) and Davelyn A. Steinsberger (Scott Steinsberger). He is grandfather to Alex Rivers, Brianna Rivers, Gabby Rivers, Sammy Steinsberger and Lily Steinsberger; he was also step-grandfather to Emma Rosenberg anf Eddie Rosenberg. He is also survived by his sister, Elaine Cronin, and brother, Jim Rivers. He was predeceased by sister, Peg Teitsch, and numerous nieces and nephews. After graduation from Hudson Valley Community College, Jack served in the National Guard and was then employed at IBM for 48 years until his retirement.
