Why cops nixed drug drop-off box

When the town sent out a press release saying it was discontinuing the drug drop-off box “due to the space required to store the considerable quantities of dropped-off medication prior to destruction” that was a cover story, a cover story for the people who had misused the box. People had been stuffing the box full to overflowing with medical supplies, used needles, liquids that leaked on to other medication and dissolved them and other problems. “It was like it was a commercial center,” Wake Forest Police Chief Jeff Leonard said this week. Remember the directions for use of the box were that deposits should be pills in their original bottles with no needles, liquids or creams allowed. The box, which was provided by CVS Pharmacy after the police department applied for it, was intended for use by individuals, not someone tending several patients or cleaning out a medical office who

Try Wake Forest Power’s paperless billing

Wake Forest Power offers several convenient ways for customers to pay their electric bills. This billing method provides greater convenience and enhanced security while also reducing clutter and helping the environment. The convenience factor is magnified when customers combine e-billing with the town’s online bill pay service. Customers who pay online also save money because they don’t have to pay for stamps, envelopes or checks. “Using the e-bill payment option is the green, environmentally-friendly way to go,” Customer Service Manager Andrew Brown Jr. said.  “Through this free service, our customers can view and pay their electric bills entirely online, thereby eliminating paper bills, envelopes and postage

Brief Bits

People had to evacuate all the businesses at Wake Forest Plaza early on Monday afternoon, Aug. 8, because of a “suspicious object” found in the area by a Wake Forest Power crew member. Wake Forest Police and Fire departments helped with the evacuation of the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, Over the Falls restaurant, Page 158 Books and Dollar General and the bomb squad with the Raleigh Police Department was called. About two hours later the emergency was declared over. That object turned out to be something called a “sacrificial anode” that PSNC attaches to its gas lines to help locate and protect the lines. Everyone was able to go back to business. You could make fun of all the fuss, but that would be wrong. It is better to treat something as serious and protect people than to shrug it off and, maybe, find out later it really was a
