Wake Forest permitted 70 new homes in June

In June the Wake Forest Inspections Department issued permits for 70 new home – 53 single-family homes, 16 townhouses and one mobile home. There was also a fit-up for a Starbucks at 1720 Retail Drive and pre-occupancy inspections for Brios Media Group at 1768 Heritage Center Drive, Suite 203, and Heritage Title at 1776 Heritage Center Drive, Suite 201. The mobile home was placed at 102 Deerfield Crossing, paying $240 for a 924-square-foot home valued at $50,000. Lennar Carolinas will build one townhouse at 1824 Austin Ridge Parkway in Austin Creel subdivision; Terramor Homes will build three townhouses on Brunello Drive in the Siena Townhomes subdivision on NC 98 Bypass; and Stanley Martin Companies will build 12 townhouses on Triumph Drive in the Retreat at Renaissance subdivision on South Franklin Street and Brooks Street. Together the townhouses paid $23,978.72 in fees and will add $2,381,991 to the town’s tax base.

Concerts in the Park begin Sunday, Aug. 5

The 2018 Concerts in the Park sponsored by PineCone and the Wake Forest Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department will be held in E.Carroll Joyner Park on Aug. 5 and Sept. 2. The Emily Musolino Band will perform the first concert on Sunday, Aug. 5, followed by Ellis Dyson & The Shambles on Sunday, Sept. 2. Free and open to the entire community, both performances are scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Emily Musolino is a singer-songstress, producer and multi-instrumentalist from Durham. A Berklee College of Music graduate, Emily has performed, recorded and collaborated with various local and nationally-recognized artists, including Vinx, Shelley Nicole, Shana Tucker, Anna Wise and Eric Hirsh (The Beast, Orquesta GarDel). Youth empowerment workshops set for Aug. 18

A RISE and DRIVE Youth Empowerment Workshop for young men and women ages 11 through 17 will be held Saturday, Aug. 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Alston-Massenburg Center on North Taylor Street. The Back2School Extravaganza will include workshops, vision boards, motivational success talks and free school supplies. The event is free, and a continental breakfast will be served. Artisans and craftspeople are invited to be a part of the third annual Wake Forest Holiday Artisans’ Market on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre on Brooks Street. The Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for Leadership Wake Forest, a comprehensive program to engage, cultivate and motivate men and women interested in building a strong sustainable community. Beginning in September, participants meet once a month for nine months to learn about Wake Forest’s history as well as current and future issues facing the town. Information is presented through panel discussions, on-site tours, hands-on activities, simulations, team discussions and Q&A sessions that provide a unique setting to meet local leaders. Betty Ann Lindsey Franklinton Betty Ann Mitchell Lindsey was born in Franklin County on July 30, 1944. She fought a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease until at home, surrounded by her family, Jesus came to take her to her new home on Sunday night, July 15, 2018. She was a member of Mount Olivet Baptist Church. Betty was a daughter of the late Floyd Hester and Lucille Pulley Mitchell and granddaughter of the late Alfred and Allie Mitchell and the late Burnie and Sarah Pulley. She was also predeceased by a baby sister, Aileen Carol Mitchell. She is survived by her husband of 34 years and caregiver, Danny Joe Lindsey; two step-children, Danny Lee Lindsey and Christy (Jonathan) Weaver; step-grandchildren, Savannah Weaver, Logan, Jake and Matthew Lindsey; sister, Janie Mitchell Ray; nieces, Lynn and Kristy Burke, Hailey and Kaitlyn Klein; and nephews, Josh Burke, Mike, John, Jacob, Colton and Wyatt
