Ronald Lee Vandegrift Wake Forest 1935 ~ 2018 Ron Vandegrift, 82, of Wake Forest died on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at Select Specialty Hospital in Durham from complications from a medical procedure. Ron was born in Long Beach, California, the son of the late Albert Leslie and Olivia Hahn Vandegrift, and he later grew up in Denver, Colorado. After graduation from the University of Northern Colorado where he helped start Sigma Kai Fraternity in 1960, he began his career with Traveler’s Insurance in Hartford, Connecticut. He remained there until 1971 when he moved to Washington, D.C. for a career with the U.S. Postal Service. Ron retired as a federal employee in 1992. Ron is survived by his wife, Mary; son, Ron Vandegrift Jr.(Lauree) of Gaithersburg, Maryland; daughter, Jane Vandegrift-Hay(Don) of Las Vegas, Neveda; step-daughters, Lori Kautonen(Asko) of Vihti Jarvi, Finland; and Melanie Rogers(Terrell) of Youngsville; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild (A
