WF Power honored as Tree Line USA again

Wake Forest Power has been named a 2018 “Tree Line USA” utility by the National Arbor Day Foundation. The award acknowledges Wake Forest Power’s commitment to proper tree pruning, planting and care. Open house to showcase programs and classes

On Thursday, March 29, the Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department will host an open house to showcase the large array of spring and summer programs and classes it will offer. The open house will take place from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Flaherty Park Community Center at 1226 North White Street. Area residents are invited to drop in any time between 5 and 7:30 p.m. to meet parks and recreation staff and class instructors who will be on hand to answer questions and provide information about various department offerings, including arts programming for children and adults. Staff will also conduct onsite program registration for all spring and summer programs. Survey will help town plan for bikes

The Town of Wake Forest has applied for the Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) award from the League of American Bicyclists. As part of that effort, the town is conducting an online survey to gather input from area bicyclists concerning their experiences and perceptions of bicycling in Wake Forest. The Spring 2018 Bicycle Friendly Community Survey is available online at www.wakeforestnc.gov/bicycles.aspx from now through Saturday, March 31, and takes approximately five minutes to complete. Intended for riders of all levels, the questionnaire is designed to provide useful information about current bicycling conditions in our community and potential areas of improvement. The survey is an important element in the town’s ongoing efforts to make Wake Forest a more bicycle-friendly community. Officials plan to incorporate survey responses in their proposals to improve cycling conditions around schools and in neighborhoods. Dementia Awareness Education Series begins April 26

From April through December, the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre for the Arts will host several seminars designed to raise awareness about Alzeheimer’s disease and related dementias. Each event in the 2018 Dementia Awareness Education Series will offer local residents the opportunity to learn about dozens of dementia-related programs, services, products and resources – all in one location This year’s series gets underway Thursday, April 26, at 9:30 a.m. with Living with Alzheimer’s – For Younger Onset. When someone under 65 is diagnosed with younger-onset Alzheimer’s, the first reaction is often shock or denial. This workshop will help provide answers to the questions that arise for people concerned about younger-onset Alzheimer’s. Attendees will hear from those directly affected and learn what they need to know, how to plan and what they can do to ease the impact throughout the course of the disease. The workshop is free, but registration is required.

The Wake Forest Police Department’s annual Carnival for the Kids will take place Tuesday, March 13, through Sunday, March 18, in the parking lot of the Wake Forest Home Depot at 11915 Retail Drive. The Carnival for the Kids promises fun and entertainment for the entire family, including rides, games and plenty of food. Sixth WF Charity Car Show set for June 16

The sixth annual Wake Forest Charity Car Show will take place Father’s Day weekend on Saturday, June 16, 2018, in historic downtown Wake Forest. Donate a park or greenway bench

The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department is pleased to introduce a Bench Donation Program for Town-maintained parks and greenways. The initiative will allow the PRCR Department, through donor funding, to install benches in and along Town parks and greenways in areas that have been identified as appropriate and suitable. The program also offers a unique and meaningful way for area residents to honor and remember friends and loved ones, promote their company, recognize a civic group, or commemorate a special event. The average cost of each bench is $1,200-$1,800 and includes installation and a donor inscription. Donations may be tax-deductible. The PRCR Department will accept applications and payment for the first round of bench installations through Thursday, March 15. Community Raffle’s top prize is $10,000

The Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce is partnering with Food Lion for a Community Raffle with a top prize of $10,000 in cash and 15 other prizes.
