Free program will help local entrepreneurs

The Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce is teaming with the Wake Forest Rotary Club, Wake Technical Community College, and the Town of Wake Forest to “Launch Wake Forest.” The free program mirrors one in Raleigh in which entrepreneurs are provided training, resources, and mentors to help them start or grow a business. The coalition will provide eight weeks of classes (one evening per week). The curriculum has been developed by Wake Tech’s Entrepreneurship Initiative. At the end of the training, students are paired with experienced businesspeople who will act as mentors for another six months. Students will also have access to microloans and possibly investments. The program is aimed at entrepreneurs who have a great idea but don’t know where to start, as well as those who are already in business and need to learn how to get to the next level. Obituaries

Larry Pittman Matthews Sr. February 28, 1931 – December 24, 2017 Raleigh Larry Matthews reunited with his wife Mabrey (“Larry! Where have you been?!”) on Christmas Eve and spent Christmas in the presence of the Lord with her and others who have gone before him. He was born in Harnett County, but resided in Raleigh most of his life. He was a faithful member of Neuse Baptist Church for fifty years. He is survived by sons Larry Jr. (Burnita) and Marty (Marta); grandsons Shane (Kellie) and Justin (Laurie); four great-grandsons; brother-in-law, John (Belinda); sisters-in-law, Christine, Dorothy, and Cora Lee; and many nephews, nieces, and friends. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by five brothers, Bruce, Robert, Thomas, and two infants. Larry had a charm and wit about him that won the hearts of many.
