Proclaim Cougars and Bryce Love Day

We celebrated with a parade last year when the Cougars trounced Greensboro Page to win the first state football championship. How can we top that now that the Wake Forest High team has beaten the latest of the Charlotte football behemoths, Mallard Creek? For one thing we could include Bryce Love, who came in second in the Heisman Trophy scoring Saturday, and also Dexter Lawrence, who is now tearing up the turf at Clemson. We will be celebrating some of our fine young men and their coaching staff headed by Reggie Lucas. We will be honoring a school which has had few state championships, only basketball coach Larry Lindsey’s teams which took the 2A title in 1971 and a couple subsequent years and the 1996 soccer team.

The section banning alcohol sales was not included. Although other stores soon joined in the sales, the first beneficiary was the then mayor John Lyon, who had recently opened Lyon’s grocery store on North White Street. The store is now offices. * * * * It may be winter but the Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce is thinking spring in general and Meet in

The Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce is teaming with the Wake Forest Rotary Club, Wake Technical Community College, and the Town of Wake Forest to “Launch Wake Forest.” The free program mirrors one in Raleigh in which entrepreneurs are provided training, resources, and mentors to help them start or grow a business. The coalition will provide eight weeks of classes (one evening per week). The curriculum has been developed by Wake Tech’s Entrepreneurship Initiative. At the end of the training, students are paired with experienced businesspeople who will act as mentors for another six months. Students will also have access to microloans and possibly investments. The program is aimed at entrepreneurs who have a great idea but don’t know where to start, as well as those who are already in business and need to learn how to get to the next level. At the end of the sessions, students

Be patient. They will collect your leaves

The Town of Wake Forest is again asking residents to be patient as crews work to collect large amounts of leaves along local streets and in neighborhoods throughout our community. Crews are working overtime and staff from other divisions have been reassigned to assist in the leaf collection effort. In addition, workers are using a vacuum truck, pull-behind vacuum trailer, and knuckleboom loader, but progress is slow due to the high volume of leaves and recurring equipment issues. In the meantime, officials are reminding local homeowners associations that contracted work performed by tree service companies or independent contractors will not be collected by town crews. Instead, it is the responsibility of the contractor to remove and properly dispose of debris. In addition, residents have the option of bagging their leaves for collection on their regular yard waste collection day. Residents who choose not to bag their leaves are reminded to

Wake Forest one of safest NC cities

Safety is something most people look for when choosing where to live in and residents of Wake Forest may be in one of the safest areas in North Carolina, according to a new study. The Town of Wake Forest was named the fifth-safest city in North Carolina by SafeHome.org. The ranking calculates a Safety Score for major cities in the US. The higher the Safety Score, the safer data shows the city to be. With a population of nearly 40,000 and 46 reported violent crimes, along with several other factors, SafeHome.org gave Wake Forest a safety score of 81.48.
