WFPD hosts motorcycle rider skills day Aug. 25

The Wake Forest Police Department will host a free BikeSafe Rider Skills Day on Friday, Aug. 25, beginning at 8:45 a.m. at the Wake Forest Police Department, 225 South Taylor Street. Area motorcyclists are invited to participate in the course designed to make riding a motorcycle safer and more enjoyable. BikeSafe Rider Skills Days involve background information and training related to five areas: Motorcycle Control – acceleration, braking, clutch control, and smoothness; Hazard Management – observation, planning, approach position, safety margin, reaction to signs, perception of danger and reaction to danger; Cornering – curve assessment, approach position, approach speed and safety margin; Overtaking – planning and following position; Roadcraft – mirrors and rear obstacles, use of signals and attitude. Transit featured at Wake Up Wake Forest

If you’re interested in learning more about the Wake County Transit Plan and its potential impact on the local business community, then don’t miss the upcoming session of “Wake Up Wake Forest.” The Town of Wake Forest and the Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce will present the third in the series of morning information seminars on Tuesday, Sept. 12, at 7:30 a.m. at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, 405 Brooks Street. Regional Transportation Alliance Executive Director Joe Milazzo will discuss the Wake County Transit Plan with a special emphasis on the initiative’s impact from a regional business community perspective. Music at Midday returns Thursday, Sept. 7

Area residents are invited to listen to great music and dine outside, while enjoying the fall season during Wake Forest’s Music at Midday weekly concert series. Co-sponsored by the Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources (PRCR) Department and Wake Forest ARTS, the free music series begins Thursday, Sept. 7, and continues on consecutive Thursdays through Sept. 28. Scheduled from noon to 1 p.m., the concerts will feature a variety of local performers and take place in Centennial Plaza, the gateway to the Wake Forest Town Hall at 401 Brooks Street. This year’s fall concert lineup includes Mister Felix on Sept. 7; Capital Transit on Sept. 14; and Loos Change on Sept. 28. James ‘Jim’ Johnson Jr. Wake Forest Macon J. Johnson, Jr. passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2017, of natural causes. Known to his many friends and family as Jim and to his lovely mother as Jimmy, Jim was born in South Mills on April 15, 1936. Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Burnham Johnson; his father, Macon J. Johnson Sr.; and his three best friends, his loving dogs Smokey 1, Smokey 2, and Susie. Jim served in the 45th Air Force, worked as a North Carolina Highway Patrolman, an investigator with the North Carolina Department of Insurance, and a club golf pro in Wake Forest. Jim was the club pro at Paschal Golf Course for several years and at Horsecreek Country Club (later known as Wake Forest Country Club). Jim also ran his father’s oil business in South Mills for a long period of time. A diehard
