Charity car show slated for June 17

The Wake Forest Charity Car Show will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 17 along South White Street in the town’s historic downtown district. Sponsored by Wake Forest Downtown Inc., the proceeds of the free event will benefit several area charities. The Grand Sponsor is Chris Leith Dodge/Ram and the show will feature the Leith Kia Monster Truck on display and the Wake Forest Fire Department’s Jaws of Life demonstration. There will be all makes and models of cars – muscle cars, sports cars, pony cars, classic and antique autos, street rods and trucks. There will be a demonstration of the “Take-Apart-T” Model T assembly. Admission to the car show is free and open to the public. Senior Center this week

On Tuesday, June 6, beginning at 10 a.m. meet with Joe from Humana for a program, Habits of Happy People, tips for staying positive through life’s challenges. The Friends of the Northern Wake Senior Center will meet that same day at 3 p.m. The center will be closed later this year for a major expansion of the building, and Miranda Strider-Allen and the staff are planning to keep operating as many of the programs and services as possible. “We are planning on moving programs and services throughout Wake Forest,” Strider Allen said this week. We are partnering with the Town of Wake Forest to use its Renaissance Center, Community House, Flaherty Community Center as well as space at the county’s Northern Regional Center. Kevin Dale Hiatt November 23, 1954 ~ May 24, 2017 Mr. Kevin Dale Hiatt, 62, passed peacefully on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at UNC Rex Healthcare in Raleigh surrounded by his loving family. Kevin was born on November 23, 1954 in Winston-Salem to Edith Swaim Hicks and the late Everette Brooklyn Hiatt. He was preceded in death by his father, his wife, Deborah “Debbie” Ann Crumpler Hiatt, and his brother, Sherrill Harvey Hiatt. Kevin is survived by his two children, Adrienne Blair Gillis and Tyler Ray Gillis; his grandson, Hiatt Patrick Reeves; his mother, Edith Hicks; and his sister, Becky Hiatt Eckrote. A memorial service was held Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Davis Memorial Chapel in Winston-Salem.
