Charity Car Show slated for June 17

The Wake Forest Charity Car Show will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 17 along South White Street in the town’s historic downtown district. Sponsored by Wake Forest Downtown Inc., the proceeds of the free event will benefit several area charities. The Grand Sponsor is Chris Leith Dodge/Ram and the show will feature the Leith Kia Monster Truck on display and the Wake Forest Fire Department’s Jaws of Life demonstration. There will be all makes and models of cars – muscle cars, sports cars, pony cars, classic and antique autos, street rods and trucks. There will be a demonstration of the “Take-Apart-T” Model T assembly. Admission to the car show is free and open to the public. Graham Pope Sr. honored June 5

Wake Forest resident Graham Pope Sr. who served his nation in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II will be honored at the 19th Memorial Flat-Raising Ceremony Monday, June 5, at 11 a.m. in Centennial Plaza in front of the Wake Forest Town Hall on Brooks Street. Members of Pope’s family will participate in the ceremony, which will include patriotic songs, special remarks, a memorial wreath laying and the ceremonial flag-raising. Following the raising of the American flag, the U.S. Army service flag will be raised in recognition of the military branch in which Pope served. Both flags will fly in Centennial Plaza throughout June. Photographs and other remembrances of Pope will also be displayed in Centennial Plaza during the ceremony, then in the Town Hall lobby through the end of June. Music at Midday ends June 1

Two talented music acts will round out the spring edition of Music at Midday beginning with Teresa Williams and John Custer performing ‘70s rock this Thursday, May 25. The lunchtime performance series concludes with jazz ensemble Capital Transit on Thursday, June 1. The series will return in September. Co-sponsored by the Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department and Wake Forest ARTS, Music at Midday features a variety of local acts performing from noon to 1 p.m. in Centennial Plaza in front of the Wake Forest Town Hall on Brooks Street. National Trails Day at Joyner June 3

The Town of Wake Forest will celebrate National Trails Day on Saturday, June 3, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at E. Carroll Joyner Park, 701 Harris Road. Events about Alzheimer’s starts May 25

The Wake Forest Renaissance Centre for the Arts will host a number of events over the next several months designed to raise awareness about Alzeheimer’s disease and related dementias. Each event in the Dementia Awareness Series will offer local residents the opportunity to learn about dozens of dementia-related programs, services, products and resources – all in one location. Senior center this week

The Northern Wake Senior Center will be closed on Monday, May 29, Memorial Day, and will reopen on Tuesday, May 30. May 31 is National Senior Health & Fitness Day, and the Northern Wake Senior Center has an open invitation to the Wake Forest Community to visit that day and see the various fitness classes offered at the center. Remember there are several free Wake Tech classes each semester at the Northern Wake Senior Center. Check out the list of classes at the front desk. Kaaren Sue Kayser Raleigh Kaaren Kayser, age 75, of Raleigh died Saturday, May 20, 2017, of cardiac arrest. Kaaren was a retired business manager at Concordia University in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She previously worked in a myriad of interesting jobs from bus driver to dog groomer to pastor’s wife in Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Florida, and Michigan before settling in North Carolina near her daughter. Kaaren was the daughter of the late Harold and Mable Seaman. Her husband of almost 50 years, John Kayser, passed in 2011. She is survived by her sister, Jackie Collins, and her brother, Max Seaman. Kaaren’s surviving children include Christopher Kayser, Mark Kayser and his wife, Jennifer, and Katherine Stroupe and her husband, Timothy. Kaaren also had four grandchildren, Thomas, Michael, Johannah, and Jonathan. Her beloved dog, Buddy, and many grandpets also survive her. Throughout Kaaren’s life, her favorite role and title was “Mom.” And she
