Review the Renaissance Plan Feb. 23

Town officials will host a public meeting Thursday, Feb. 23, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the ground floor meeting room at town hall for residents’ input on the final draft of the Renaissance Plan, about a year after the update process began. People can review the plan at www.wakeforestnc.gov/renaissance-plan-update.aspx. The meeting will be an informal open house where residents can drop in any time to ask questions and offer comments about the plan. You can also submit comments by email at renaissanceplan@wakeforestnc.gov before 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24. Want a free thermostat?

No, this is not a variation of the “I’ve got a bridge I can sell you” ploy. This is an offer by Wake Forest Power to install Smart Thermostats in town homes as a way for the customer to save electricity, lower home energy bills and earn load management credits and allow Wake Forest Power to shave its energy bills. Wake Forest Power will install the Smart Thermostat, a $300 value, at no cost. Through these new internet-connected thermostats, customers can manage their homes’ heating and cooling systems anywhere, anytime either online or by a mobile app. Once the thermostat is installed, participating customers can program the comfort settings and begin earning monthly load management credits. Then, on the coldest and hottest days of each month, Wake Forest Power will remotely adjust the thermostat by a few degrees, thereby increasing the energy savings while also reducing the peak demand on

Brief Bits

It appears the crisis situation at the Wake Forest Post Office has been mostly resolved. Rolesville Mayor Frank Eagles said this week that the four trucks and four rural carriers for the Rolesville routes are now at the Rolesville Post Office. Complaints are almost non-existent, he said, “and mail delivery is a lot earlier. Now we need a second counter person” in the post office. Acting Postmaster Tammy McKay at the Wake Forest Post Office is still advertising for rural mail carriers – at last check there were still small signs in front of the post office on East Holding Avenue – but most customers on most routes are receiving their mail in a timely fashion. * * * * The Wake Forest Town Board will meet next Tuesday, Feb. 21, and this meeting is a chance for you to chime in about the town’s budget for next year.
