Get to the 2015 Broadway Ball

The Wake Forest Renaissance Centre for the Arts will commemorate its third year of bringing extraordinary and diverse cultural and performing arts experiences to our community during the 2016 Renaissance Centre Broadway Ball for the Arts. Scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 12, the event will take place from 6 to 10:15 p.m. at the Renaissance Centre on Brooks Street Themed “To Broadway and Back,” this year’s Broadway Ball will feature a show-stopping performance by JTL (Just a Touch of Love) performing a variety of dance favorites. In addition to JTL’s dynamic performance, the occasion will include a Broadway reception compliments of Cannon Catering, a three-course meal, and a cash bar serving beer, wine, and soft drinks. Free historic tours offered

The Town of Wake Forest will offer three free walking tours of the local Wake Forest Historic District on the following dates and times: Wednesday, Nov. 2; 1 pm Wednesday, Nov. 16; 1 pm Led by architectural historian and Town Historic Preservation Planner Michelle Michael, the tours will include areas along North Main Street, North Avenue, Front Street, and South Avenue. Along the way each group will discuss the developmental and architectural history of the area, along with the significant men and women who lived in the homes. Individual homes will not be toured. Each tour will begin and end at the Wake Forest Historical Museum, 414 N. Main St. Space is limited to the first 12 participants to sign up for each tour, so pre-registration is required by completing the online sign-up form at www.wakeforestnc.gov/wake-forest-historic-district-walking-tours.aspx. Senior Center this week

Too old for Trick or Treat? Try to outdo your friends with a fun costume on Monday, Oct. 31, Halloween day. Jessica and Meals on Wheels are planning fun and games beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, and there will be adult coloring with Susan at 10:15 a.m. Friday, Oct. 28, with the supplies provided at no charge. If you are new or an old hand at the senior center, you should check the calendar regularly because of all the offerings, from a birthday party to a storytelling group to a theater group. The free health screenings and blood pressure checks are provided at 9:30 each Monday by a variety of local businesses, which are the Franklin Manor, Stay at Home Senior Care and Dr. Casey Baldwin, a pharmacist. Obituaries

Ronald R. Bender Youngsville Ronald Reinnerth Bender, 75, of Youngsville passed away Friday, October 14, 2016, at his home. He was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania to the late George G. Bender and Anne Marie Reinnerth Bender. Mr. Bender was a graduate of Middle State Tennessee and was an executive in the apparel manufacturing industry for many years. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force in his younger years. He was a decorated horseshoe pitcher, having played all over the country, and was also instrumental in building horseshoe courts. Ron had a great love for motorcycles, classic cars, sports, and books. Janie and Ron collected and sold books during their tenure together as a hobby. Lake Geneva was a special place for Ron and he spent some time there every summer with close friends and family enjoying their friendships. Pastor Phil Brantley will conduct a private burial service
