‘Let’s make it happy,’ mayor says

Mayor Vivian Jones concluded her 2015 State of the Town by quoting a Coca-Cola ad from the Super Bowl: “Life is what we make of it – let’s make it happy” after quoting the many ups and plusses during 2014 and some of the sad times. “I ask you to join with me and look forward. Look forward with joyful anticipation to the good things that are happening here.” She began by calling out the “elephant in the room” which she had originally thought to leave for the last. “Yes, I am talking about the event that occurred this year that will probably have the most long-lasting effect on Wake Forest of anything else that happened – even longer lasting that those pickleball courts that we set up this year! Residents question Ligon Mill extension

During a required neighborhood meeting last June, the current residents of Reynolds Mill subdivision on South Main Street had a lot of questions about the extension of Ligon Mill Road on the western edge of the proposed extension of the subdivision. When the subdivision was first approved in 2005, one of the conditions was that Ligon Mill Road would be would be extended to the N.C. 98 Bypass (the Dr. Calvin Jones Highway) before the first 75 houses were built in later phases. Conditions have changed, developer Parker & Orleans says in its request for approval of the master plan for phase 3 of the subdivision on 19.68 acres (owned by Orleans Home Builders) for 69 single-family lots. Since 2005 Ligon Mill Road has been extended from a dead end just west of South Main Street to Caveness Farm Avenue to accommodate another development. The road now ends at the

Updating the lawsuits

Court action often appears glacial, but there is an update in the two suits filed by Wake Forest attorney Nathaniel C. Parker on behalf of Frank and Olga McCoy in September 2014 after the town commissioners approved the Tryon subdivision. The couple has subsequently filed a third suit against the Town of Wake Forest in December alleging there were violations of the state’s open meeting law while the commissioners were considering the rezoning and master plan. Wake County Superior Court Judge Hardin, who heard arguments from the town and the petitioners in December about certiorari for one of the first two suits, has now asked the same parties to appear before him Friday at 9:30 a.m. Certiorari is an appeal to the Superior Court to review the town’s approval of the developer’s application. The McCoys and their attorney have asked the court to review the decision by the town board
