State of the Town Monday

Mayor Vivian Jones will deliver her 2015 State of the Town address Monday, Feb. 16, at the seventh annual State of the Town dinner presented by the Wake Forest Rotary Club. The event will be held at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre on Brooks Street and will begin at 6 p.m. Jones will highlight the town’s accomplishments in 2014 and outline the town’s goals for 2015. All area residents are invited to attend. Tickets are $15 per person in advance and $20 on the day of the event and include a catered meal. Dress for the event is business casual. Tickets can be purchased online with a Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover credit card or at the Renaissance Centre Box Office with cash, check or credit card. A processing fee will be added to the cost of any ticket purchased with a credit card.

Ya gotta move and sing

If you can move your feet and sing at the same time, the Wake Forest Singers really need you.  Rehearsals just started and are open until Thursday, February 19th. The Singers meet at 7 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Durham Road ( Hwy 98 Business Across from McDonald’s)  in Wake Forest on Thursday nights. The  Spring Concert, “Dance,”  is Sunday afternoon, April 12,  at The Renaissance Center.  The Singers….”Hope You ”…take a ” Step In Time” and “Dance in the Streets All Night”.  That’s just hints of a few  of the song titles.  All SATB voices are needed. Come for a taste of WF history

Writer’s Night in the Forest – Exploring the History of Wake Forest will celebrate the history of Wake Forest, as well as the men and women who established the community, as well as its culture and destiny. The event is free, but anyone planning to attend is encouraged to pre-register. Scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 26, at 6:30 p.m., this special “Writer’s Night in the Forest” will feature a distinguished panel of guests including Carol Pelosi, author of Connections: 100 Years of Wake Forest History. Other panelists will include Ed Morris, Executive Director of the Wake Forest Historical Museum; Chip Russell, Wake Forest Planning Director; Durward Matheny, long-time Wake Forest resident; and Roy Lynam, Mill Village resident. Reverse Raffle happens March 20

The Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual Reverse Raffle will be held Friday, March 20, 2015, from 6 – 10 p.m. at The Renaissance Center, 405 S. Brooks Street in historic downtown Wake Forest. Tickets cost $125 each and admit two people to the drawing party. The last ticket to be drawn will win $10,000! Spring beckons but winter lingers

This Saturday, given all the unsettled weather, you may find only cabbage when you look for greens and vegetables at the Wake Forest Farmers Market. But as surely as the sun inches a bit north on the horizon every morning, which it does, spring and all its goodies will be coming soon. But the market, which is open from 10 a.m. to noon in the Renaissance Plaza on Brooks Street, will have other vendors where you can find breads, baked goods of all kinds, cheese, soap, honey and honey products, eggs and all kinds of meats. Fair weather Saturday may bring out more vendors and more shoppers, so go early. The market will be open every Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon through March. Carolyn Curry Carolyn Curry, 65, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2015, at Wake Medical Center. She was born in LeMars, Iowa, the daughter of the late Betty Beechler Chicoine and Orville Chicoine, and was preceded in death by a grandson, Nathan Lamson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 o’clock Friday morning, February 13, 2015, at Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Mrs. Curry is survived by her husband, Thomas Curry; her children, Elissa Norris and husband, James, of Chesapeake, Va., Christopher Curry of Wake Forest, Diana Curry of Raleigh and Ava Curry of Wake Forest; brothers, David Chicoine of Lincoln, Calif., Jerry Chicoine and Robert Chicoine, both of Des Moines, Iowa; and grandchildren, Ryan, Liam and Molly Norris.
