Also, discount department store Ross, Rack Room Shoes and Kirklands, a home décor company, are either interested or definitely will be making their way there soon. “We pick up our permits this week and start work in mid-October,” Brian Mountcastle, the construction manager for Weingarten’s mid-Atlantic U.S. Region, said Monday. “We are printing the advertising/leasing signs to go on the corner of Stadium and U.S. 1. Chasing the 1930s arsonist

(During the Depression, as the two Wake Forest banks failed and people lost their homes to foreclosure, an arsonist prowled the Wake Forest College campus and town streets at night. Incredibly no lives were lost, but two historic college buildings and the just-completed Wake Forest High School were destroyed as was the clubhouse at what is now Paschal Golf Course. The high school, which was fully insured, was rebuilt immediately and is the R.H. Forrest Building at Wake Forest Elementary. (The arsonist – it appears it was all the work of one college student – tried to destroy all the buildings on campus. In 1982 Tom Arrington, the son of the first Wake Forest Fire Department chief, said more than 70 fires were set over a two-year period, 1933 and 1934, and 17 buildings were burned. Every building on the campus had a fire set in it though only Wait

Second weekend to see ‘Helium’

How does a person – and their loved ones — react when he or she begins to experience dementia? Many of us will face it, one way or another, and the play, “Helium,” written by Julian Wiles, the founder and artistic director of the Charleston Stage in South Carolina, uses comedy and emotions to explore some of the problems and rewards. It’s the story of Mrs. Molly Kingsley, a retired high school chemistry teacher in her eighties who is struggling with the onset of dementia. Gramms navigates her life beyond the boundaries of time and space with consequences both humorous and sobering. Like the family, the audience can’t always tell when Gramms is pretending, and the resulting humor helps soften
