Classic/Antique Car Show June 14

The Downtown Revitalization Corporation is sponsoring a free Classic and Antique Charity Car Show on Saturday, June 14, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Presented for the benefit of several area charities, including Wounded Warriors of Wake County, Hospice of Wake County and the Miracle League of the Triangle, this family-friendly event will be held along South White Street in historic downtown Wake Forest.  Sponsored by Chris Leith Dodge/Kia, the exhibit will showcase vehicles of all makes and models, including muscle cars, sports cars, pony cars, classic and antique autos, street rods and trucks. The car show will also feature a ‘Take-Apart-T’ Model T assembly demonstration, the Leith Kia Monster Truck on display, live music, and food and retail vendors.  Admission to the car show is free and open to the public. 5K Freedom Run set for June 21

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 187 in Wake Forest will sponsor the 2014 5K Freedom Run on Saturday, June 21, with a theme of “Honoring Our World War II Veterans.” The proceeds from the race will support Military Missions in Action, a North Carolina organization that assists veterans with disabilities as well as members of the Armed Forces and their families, and the American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund, which ensures a higher education for children whose parents have been killed while serving our country. Competitive and recreational runners and walkers will use a USATF certified course beginning and ending at the American Legion Post at 225 East Holding Avenue with prizes for the top finishers. The race will have electronic BibTag timing. Registration is $25 before June 7 and $30 thereafter. Obituaries

Joseph Walter Travers Joseph Walter Travers, 80, of Wake Forest died Tuesday morning, March 25, 2014. Mr. Travers was born in the Bronx, N.Y., the son of the late Virginia Van Der Hayden Travers and Walter Travers. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a retired banker.   A funeral mass was celebrated at 10 o’clock Thursday morning, March 27, 2014, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Burial was in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens. Mr. Travers is survived by his wife, Margaret Meehan Travers; daughter, Theresa Travers and her children, Austin Brodmerkel and Karlee Brodmerkel; and a son, Joe Travers and his wife, Mary Kate, and their children, Megan, Michael, Anne and Paul Travers.
