Celebrate Trails Day June 4

The Town of Wake Forest will celebrate National Trails Day on Saturday, June 4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at E. Carroll Joyner Park at 701 Harris Road.

The free event will include an Environmental Education Expo featuring interactive environmental education stations. Set up throughout the park, the stations will offer both children and adults a unique opportunity to experience the wonders of nature while learning about the environment.

As part of the expo, attendees will have the opportunity to get an up-close look at a variety of living things they might encounter on the trails:

  • Examine reptiles and amphibians and learn about their tracks and signs at an exhibit from the NC Museum of Natural Sciences
  • Learn how to identify song birds
  • See samples of native and invasive plants
  • Learn how to tell if a stream is healthy by identifying the bugs in the water
  • Visit owls, bees, and butterflies
  • Hear animal stories and night calls
  • Build-a-Birdhouse
  • See camping exhibits, reptiles and more!

Several local organizations and businesses are scheduled to participate in the Environmental Education Expo, including Heritage High School, Wakefield High School, Wake Forest High School, the North Carolina Museum of Natural Science, the American Wildlife Refuge, Wake Chapter of Audubon Society, SHAPE Eco Farm, the Boys and Girl Scouts, the Wake Forest Police Department, Home Depot, PetSmart and many more.

Children who pick up a passport at the Wake Forest Greenways Advisory Board booth and have it stamped at 10 stations or more will be eligible for a special prize (while supplies last).
